Junior

Super Junior M is a mandopop, or Mandarin pop boy group formed in 2008 from the members Siwon, Donghae, Kyuhyun, Ryeowook, Sungmin, and Eunhyuk of Super Junior. It is the most successful sub-group of Super Junior and is responsible for Super Junior’s large following in China.
When SJ-M was formed, it originally consisted of Siwon, Kyuhyun, Donghae, Ryeowook, and SJ-M Leader Hangeng (since Hangeng is from China, he could speak Mandarin as well as Korean fluently). Two talents also fluent in Mandarin and Korean, Zhoumi and Henry, were added to the group and are the only members who exclusively belong to the SJ-M sub-group. When Hangeng left Super Junior (for info on why, please read the biography on the “Hangeng” page), Eunhyuk and Sungmin became a part of the sub-group. SJ-M’s current leader is Sungmin, since he is the oldest within the sub-group.
The meaning behind SJ-M’s name is quite interesting. The first name the sub-group was known by was “Super Junior China,” but the official name became Super Junior M on April 3, 2008. M was to represent Mandarin and also represent “Me,” which as SJ-M’s first album. The Chinese pinyin “mi” or “迷”stands for charismatic and fan, which was chosen to show the group’s close connection with their fans.
